Welcome to the Somerset Wellbeing and Learning Community

A Recovery College hosted by Somerset Partnership NHS Trust and delivered in partnership with other local agencies for the wellbeing of people in Somerset.
Our students are people from Somerset interested to learn life skills in order to experience good mental health, people with lived experience of mental health difficulties, their family and friends, and the professionals who support them.

About our courses

The Somerset Wellbeing and Learning Community offers opportunities to learn about mental health and recovery by providing a unique curriculum designed to increase your knowledge, understanding and skills to equip you with the tools to live a meaningful, productive and fulfilling life.

Our courses are split into three types:

Hope

The continuing presence of hope, and the possibility to pursue personal goals and ambitions.

  • Hope is the catalyst of the Recovery process – Repper, Perkins, Rinaldi and Brown
  • Once you choose HOPE anything is possible – Christopher Reeve

Control

Addressing the need for students to maintain a feeling of control through empowerment and learning new skills.

These courses teach skills for control and self-management to promote personal choice and responsibility in recovery, health and wellbeing.

Opportunity

Having the opportunity to build a life beyond mental illness.

Courses formed around offering students opportunities to experience different approaches to managing mental health and wellbeing, which can complement and enhance traditional treatment and services.

Our Wellbeing Learning Community is a new enterprise and whilst we are starting with just a few courses we will work hard to build up a bigger and broader perspective over time. We will do this by working together with people who have lived experience of mental health to produce the courses that will form a growing prospectus.
